Biometry is the application of statistics to biology, medicine, and agriculture and drug development. A biometrics applies mathematical and statistical techniques to interpret the massive quantities of data generated by research and development work in the pure and applied Biological sciences, in areas such as : agriculture, forestry , environmental science , fisheries , food science , genetics , health.
The range of work includes design, analysis and interpretation of trials and the modeling of biological systems. Typical work activities might include: testing the performance of new crop varieties, modeling the spread of a particular disease, modeling population changes for certain species of animal, clinical trials of newly developed drugs.
Most biometrist posts are with publicly-funded research institutes, the agriculture industry, major food companies and research laboratories funded by private industry.
Statisticians can also be found in the pharmaceutical industry and as researchers in hospitals and agricultural institutes. Organizations employing biometrists include some of activities.
